Union Artillery Reserve assembled here before Gettysburg, where they got to blast at Longstreet's frontal assault on July 3rd

- Maryland's first Governor, founding father and slaver Thomas Johnson, died here in 1819 and eventually gets burred in Frederick's Mount Olivet Cemetery along with Francis Scott Key and Barbara Fritchie, among others.  

- the daughter of Johnson's brother married John Quincy Adams
