During the Civil War, Co. K, 14th New Jersey Infantry, guarded the railroad and National Road at Mount Airy. Pine Grove Chapel, built in 1846 and first called Ridge Presbyterian Church, served as a barracks. When an old slave named Abaigail carried liquor from the Ridgeville hotel to sell to the soldiers, Capt. Jacob J. June 29, 1863 Corbit's Charge Westminster, Maryland 1st Delaware Cavalry, Company C & D (less than 100 men), commanded by Maj. Napoleon B. Knight with Capt. Charles Corbit and Lt. Caleb Churchman; a detachment of the 150th NY Infantry already occupied as Provost Guard   vs. Gen J.E.B. June 28, 1863 Confederate Cavalry at Summit Hall Farm Rockville > Gaithersburg, MD JEB Stuart and ~5,000 cavalrymen https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=1709 Gaithersburg Summit Hall Farm — Gettysburg Campaign — On Sunday, J une 28, 1863, Confederate Gen. J.E.B. Stuart and an estimated 5,000 cavalrymen arrived in Rockville en route to Gettysburg. Armed with a list of Union supporters, Stuart’s men planned to arrest John T. DeSellum as he left Presbyterian services, but shopkeeper Dora Higgins warned him in time to escape. Stuart’s cavalrymen seized new mounts and supplies around Rockville, including some of Summit Hall’s horses, forage, and foodstuffs. Though a slaveholder, John T.
